Our Children First

The special education instructor is contracted/or employed through Our Children First, Inc. Services provided by the special educator instructor must meet the standards of care for special education instruction therapy services and New York State professional standards, and also meet the DOH and DOE guidelines for center base providers.

 

Qualifications

Minimum education and experience requirements include: a Certificate of Clinical Competence in the appropriate area (special education instruction) granted by the State Education Department; current registration or New York State to practice as a special education instructor.

 

Accountability

The special education instructor reports directly to the Clinical Director.

 

Responsibilities

  1. To provide special education instruction services to students as written by the IEP, including:
  2. Assessment, evaluation and development of therapeutic/rehabilitative/functional goals.
  3. Providing special education instruction services.
  4. Notification of any changes in student’s condition or response to treatment.
  5. To initiate special education instruction and instruct agency personnel or student and or family members to assist the student in reaching established goals.
  6. Preparation and submission of session notes on daily basis, quarterly progress reports and annual report for IEP meeting.
  7. To provide in-service education or other material for Client’s family as needed.
  8. To participate in case conference and/or progress summaries to determine continuing therapeutic need.
